VCCool's Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo 2008 - A Huge Success!
We fitted and gave away over three times as many helmets as we did at our first rodeo (182 helmets fitted carefully on each little head), and over 30 volunteers including interpreters and six dedicated bike mechanics, were kept hopping! We estimate there were 250 kids that participated. Including other familiy members, we think 500 people were exposed to the concepts of traffic safety, cycling laws, and the sheer coolness of bikes! Goals and Features of the 2008 Kids Bike Rodeo Know How Big Your Carbon Footprint Is?
But do you know how many pounds of carbon dioxide your household emits per year - know what your biggest emitter is - know how many pounds of CO2 emissions it takes to get to the farmer's market? If you don't know the answers to the questions - try our updated, and VCCool approved, Carbon Calculator. What you see may surprise you! (Note: We hope to add food to the calculator within the next few months.) If you do - then you're definitely ahead of the curve, and you probably already know which things you need to work on to really lower you carbon foot print. Lower Your Carbon Footprint with a
Thanks to Ventura City Manager Rick Cole, and city staff Jenise Wager, and Kelly Flanders, VCCool received 250 "Low Carbon Diet" workbooks to give away free, to interested "dieters." The catch? To get a a free workbook, you have to promise to go on the "diet" and then tell us how much carbon emissions your household or group lost. These workbooks show you how to calculate the carbon emissions that your household gives off annually, and how to lower your "carbon footprint." This is about making a REAL difference. And the more people that join up, the cooler our community will be. VCCool can help you get started! We can give you a workbook (while they last), show you how to calculate your carbon footprint (it's not hard!), and share how we did our diets. Contact VCCool if you'd like to sign up. There is no fee; just bring your interest, and even a friend or two. Visit our helpful "Low Carbon Diet" section Bills in House and Senate, Cut Carbon 80% by 2050 Senate: Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act - S 309 The United States House and Senate, are still holding two bills that support the scientific community's understanding of climate change crisis. They are effective immediately (after a two year review), with milestones every five years.
